Description

This is a postcard not postmarked, entitled "London, Ludgate Hill". Dimensions are: 5 1/2" width by 3 1/2" height. By Raphael Tuck and Sons, a "Town & City" postcard. No copyright notice evident. Scanned by DIYBookscanner.org.



This postcard photo was taken on Ludgate Hill in London, facing east across Ludgate Circus. A railway bridge across Ludgate Hill is visible, but no longer exists. The tower on the left is St. Martin within Ludgate Church, and in the background a tower belonging to St. Paul's Cathedral is visible. Both churches exist today.



On the buildings to the right, destroyed during World War II, is an advertisement for Peck's Lever Watches. Also visible is the partial word BOVR, for Bovril, VINOL, for Vinolia, and the Isle of Man Office.



Business visible are an architect's office, McAllan General Printer, Bell & Pritchard American Tailors, and A. Baker & Co.
